Trust and transparency

Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Peer Receipts handles, why we use it, and the choices available to contributors and visitors.

Effective October 21, 2026

Information we collect

We collect information you choose to provide when you submit a Receipt, create an account, contact us, or otherwise interact with Peer Receipts. Depending on what you do on the site, this may include:

  • a professional email address
  • your organization or industry
  • your role or job function
  • information provided for professional verification
  • the content of a Receipt you submit
  • your verification status
  • messages you send to Peer Receipts

The website and the services that support it may also receive basic technical information, such as browser type, device information, IP address, pages visited, and diagnostic data. Where the service technically provides it, this may include an approximate location derived from an IP address. We do not collect precise location.

How we use information

We use information to:

  • operate Peer Receipts
  • verify professional context
  • review and moderate submissions
  • maintain the integrity of the platform
  • prevent fraud and duplicate submissions
  • improve the website
  • respond to questions and requests
  • comply with legal obligations

Professional details provided for verification are used to assess the credibility of a submission. We do not display a contributor's identity with an anonymous Receipt unless the contributor has clearly authorized us to do so.

Receipt submissions and anonymity

Peer Receipts is designed to let scientists share practical experience without publicly identifying the contributor. Anonymity here is about what the public sees.

Public anonymity does not mean Peer Receipts itself holds no information about the contributor. We may retain verification information separately from the public content of a Receipt, so that a Receipt can be published anonymously while still coming from a verified member of the scientific community.

We do not publicly associate a contributor's identity with an anonymous Receipt unless that contributor has authorized it, or disclosure is required by law. We may also edit or remove details within submitted content that could unintentionally identify a person, organization, patient, or confidential project.

Service providers and third parties

We use service providers to run Peer Receipts. Depending on the function, providers may support hosting, databases and infrastructure, forms and submissions, security, and communications. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy practices, and only to the extent needed to provide their service to us.

We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a business transfer.

Cookies and similar technologies

Peer Receipts uses cookies that are necessary for the website to work. These keep you signed in, maintain your session as you move between pages, and support basic security. Without them, signing in and submitting a Receipt would not function.

We use privacy-focused, cookie-free analytics to understand aggregate traffic, referral sources, device categories, and whether key site journeys work. Analytics does not receive Receipt or Stack narrative text, names, email addresses, organizations, professional verification records, profile identifiers, or authentication secrets. We do not use analytics for advertising or behavioral profiling.

Our analytics configuration does not set an analytics cookie. The cookies Peer Receipts does set are strictly necessary, so there is nothing optional to turn off on the site itself. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, though signed-in features will not work if you do.

Sale or sharing of personal information

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Information submitted to Peer Receipts is used to operate the platform, not to build advertising profiles.

Retention and security

We retain information for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose it was collected. How long that is varies, and depends on factors such as operational need, moderation and integrity records, legal obligations, open disputes, and security.

Verification records may be retained after a Receipt is published, so that the Receipt's standing can be checked if it is later questioned. We use reasonable safeguards to protect information, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.

If an account is anonymized after contributing published content, we preserve the published Receipt or Receipt Stack, including its scientific content, ratings, experiences, lifecycle history, and product relationships. We remove or de-identify the contributor's personal profile information, email, employer or company identity, private verification evidence, and profile links from retained public content. The contributor is displayed only as Former verified contributor.

Your choices and privacy rights

You may ask us to:

  • access the information associated with your submission
  • correct information that is inaccurate
  • review what you have submitted
  • delete or withdraw a submission, where applicable

We will act on these requests subject to any records we must retain for legal, security, or platform integrity reasons. Depending on where you live, additional privacy rights may apply, and we will honour those rights where they do.

You can also limit certain technical data through your browser or device settings.

Updates and contact

We may update this policy as Peer Receipts evolves. The effective date above indicates the latest revision. Questions or privacy requests may be sent through the contact channels provided on the Peer Receipts website.
